Design & history
Fuji Classic was designed by British golf course architect Desmond Muirhead. The concept draws from Katsushika Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji as well as the artist's life and visual language. Instead of a typical forest-style Japanese course, it unfolds across open pastureland below Mount Fuji with a highland links character. Lakes, large bunkers, natural slopes, rolling greens, and symbolic shaping give the course both visual identity and strategic depth.
Course character
When weather conditions are clear, multiple parts of the course offer close Mount Fuji views, with longer sightlines toward Lake Motosu, the Southern Alps, and the Yatsugatake range.
At roughly 1,200 meters above sea level, the course has an open links-like feel while still retaining Japanese highland trees, ponds, and natural scenery.
Highland wind can affect both direction and distance. Players need to adjust shots around wind, ground contour, bunkers, and water hazards.
The bent one-green setup can be quick and grain-sensitive. The direction of Mount Fuji, slope, and daily green condition all influence putting lines.
